"In Memoriam: Danielle Drumke, Smith College Class of 1995"
06/18/2002 Entry

Diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 27, Danielle lived the last two years of her life with as much energy as she did the previous twenty-seven. This past Sunday, just a few days before her 29th birthday, she passed away. I knew Danielle mostly from her performance in the Smiffenpoofs a cappella group at Smith. She was a great drummer for the group. I remember the group's wonderful performances during their visit to Geneva, Switzerland in the summer of 1995, so I guess right after Danielle had graduated from Smith and just at the end of my junior year abroad there. It has been very inspiring to follow Danielle's past two years. She has been incredible at staying positive. It is also overwhelming to see the amount of love and support she has received from her family and friends, many of them Smithies. Danielle's last request was to have a scholarship fund established in her name at Smith College. I hope the necessary funds can be collected for it. (Donation info is available »here«.)

Blogs I Visit

The small print

A few words on what I will and will not post on this blog (taken from my E-LIST entry of January 2, 2002). I have nothing against posting commercial sites as long as they come highly recommended. In fact, I'm quite interested in improving informed consumer choice so I'm very curious to hear about good experiences with online retailers. What I will refrain from posting are sites that require plug-ins or programs that are painful to deal with. Example: I will not post anything that only works with RealOne/RealPlayer as that program is intrusive and annoying beyond belief and I am not willing to reinstall it on my machine (it was hard enough to get rid of it completely in the first place) nor do I want to encourage others to have it. If your site has audio content, please make it available in multiple formats or choose one that can be run on multiple players (e.g. .avi).
