"Anti-war protests"
01/18/2003 Entry

I don't watch TV so I don't know how much that particular medium covered the DC march. I'm certainly not impressed by how the New York Times didn't even care to put a blurb about it "above the fold" on their site. (By "above the fold" I refer to the top section of the page before having to scroll down to see the rest of the page contents.) Looking at the covers of various international newspapers suggests that news of the march didn't make much of a splash in most places. I find that unfortunate. It would be nice if people across the globe knew that not everyone in the U.S. is pro war. Perhaps not surprisingly, one paper that did feature this story on its cover is the French Libération.

Having spoken to numerous friends and having looked for photos online, it seems like there was quite a crowd in the anti-war protests in DC today. I was impressed by the diversity of people who decided to go.. people of all ages and all levels of political involvement. I saw a few pretty clever slogans around, for example this one on a T-shirt was pretty good: "Get rid of Saddam. Ride a bike."

Blogs I Visit

The small print

A few words on what I will and will not post on this blog (taken from my E-LIST entry of January 2, 2002). I have nothing against posting commercial sites as long as they come highly recommended. In fact, I'm quite interested in improving informed consumer choice so I'm very curious to hear about good experiences with online retailers. What I will refrain from posting are sites that require plug-ins or programs that are painful to deal with. Example: I will not post anything that only works with RealOne/RealPlayer as that program is intrusive and annoying beyond belief and I am not willing to reinstall it on my machine (it was hard enough to get rid of it completely in the first place) nor do I want to encourage others to have it. If your site has audio content, please make it available in multiple formats or choose one that can be run on multiple players (e.g. .avi).
