"Launching E-MIX"
01/30/2003 Entry

Once in a while you read something that inspires you to go out and join the club. That's how I felt when I read a piece in today's Circuits section of the New York Times about CD-mix groups.

People form a mixed-CD swapping group. Each member compiles a CD mix and sends a copy to all other members. It's based on an honor system. It seems like the perfect solution for finding out about new music. I've been interested in that recently but it's hard to know where to turn. So I'm starting a mixed CD club: E-MIX or "Eszter's CD Mix Club".

I've put up some basic notes about how I envision the details. I welcome comments about it.

If you are interested in taking part, please read that page for more information, take a bit to think about it and if you're ready to commit, send me a note.

I envision twelve people forming a group (one CD per month). If I hear from more than 11 interested parties then I'll consider starting more than one group (I'll be in each).

I don't have a homepage, but I have 1400 cd's to choose from. I am in if you can find some more people

Blogs I Visit

The small print

A few words on what I will and will not post on this blog (taken from my E-LIST entry of January 2, 2002). I have nothing against posting commercial sites as long as they come highly recommended. In fact, I'm quite interested in improving informed consumer choice so I'm very curious to hear about good experiences with online retailers. What I will refrain from posting are sites that require plug-ins or programs that are painful to deal with. Example: I will not post anything that only works with RealOne/RealPlayer as that program is intrusive and annoying beyond belief and I am not willing to reinstall it on my machine (it was hard enough to get rid of it completely in the first place) nor do I want to encourage others to have it. If your site has audio content, please make it available in multiple formats or choose one that can be run on multiple players (e.g. .avi).
