"More blogs"
02/24/2003 Entry
I've added several links to the Blogs I Visit including ms.musings from Ms.Magazine, Dave Barry's Blog for occasional amusement and my so-called lesbian life which has led me to interesting pieces about gay rights and gender issues, among other things.
Via Kieran, I've also come across mamamusings with topics overlapping my interests. It's actually interesting that my path to that blog was via Kieran instead of Alex given that Alex's field overlaps with mamamusings' area (info tech) and mine more than Kieran's. Then again, Kieran's doing more and more work in the IT field so maybe that statement is outdated. In any case, Kieran posted a note about mamamusings which then led me there. And although there is a pointer on Alex' blogroll to mamamusings, his blogroll is so long - as is Kieran's by now, come to think of it - that it's too tedious to look for anything in that maze.
I like the Academic Blogs section on mamamusings. I am eager to find more academics who blog, especially ones in sociology and communication related areas. That's homophily for you, a mild version in any case. (Mild because simply being academics is not going to make two people necessarily share interests or agree on much by way of opinions, it just suggests some commonality in lifestyle or at least workstyle.) mamamusings is a welcomed find because it's leading me to blogs I hadn't seen before. I've recently noticed that the networks of blogs I come upon seem to loop around (too many crosslinks leading to redundant ties) so I appreciate blogs with lots of new links.
By the way, if you're interested in further exploring topics related to social networks (such as homophily, redundant ties and others), feel free to peruse this reading list.

How could you have missed all the links Alex has had to me, especially during our grant proposal process??? :-) And if you look carefully, you'll see me on the cc: line of mail about the AofIR panel discussion he's trying to pull together.
Maybe it's just a critical mass thing--we don't "see" some things until they reach a certain level of mass in the writings of the people around us...
