Charter of the “Romanian Students & Scholars Association at Princeton”

Written today, November 5, 2006 with the full consent of the founding members

Purpose and Activity

The “Romanian Students & Scholars Association at Princeton” (RSSA) is meant to promote and raise awareness about the cultural and intellectual values of the Romanian people by means of its representatives within the Princeton community.

Given that a few percent of the international student population at Princeton, at both undergraduate and graduate level, is given by Romanians, to which we can add American-born Romanian students, faculty and staff, as well as people who have direct academic interests in the language and culture of this people, we believe that this group needs an organized means of expression to have real impact on the campus scene. For this purpose, the RSSA intends to run a diverse panel of cultural events on campus, of both academic and non-academic nature, such as:

Members & Selection Criteria

The association is open to any member of the university community, without regard to ethnicity, political or religious affiliation etc., fact which is evidenced by the initial structure of the group (refer to supporting petition). In addition, the RSSA intends to fully commit to the non-discriminatory policies adopted by Princeton University with regard to any minority group. Since the primary purpose is to have a more informed student body with regards to the Romanian component within both America’s and world’s culture, we will make an intensive effort in fostering communication with the broader campus community as often as possible.

Rights & Responsibilities

Any member of the RSSA is encouraged to actively contribute to the group’s agenda, participate in any event sponsored by the group, as well as help with publicizing the events on campus. The responsibility of each member lies in becoming acquainted with all the relevant University rules and policies regarding student activities, as well as in being aware that each event organized in the name of the group should get prior consent from the board members, in that it should bear interest to a fairly wide target audience.

Organizational Structure

The RSSA officers are to be chosen by means of expressed candidacy and consultations (vote) held within the group. We plan to hold yearly elections, organized in the beginning of each academic year. Below are given the board members for the current academic year 2006-2007:

A petition signed by over 30 persons who agreed to serve as founding members has been submitted to the Princeton’s Student Group Recognition Committee.
